Racing History

The first we know of Korybant’s racing history is some photos after she won the Marblehead Cup in 1942 and 1943.  These are courtesy of the Swedish Maritime Museum and the Karlskrona Maritime Museum:

Note that this drawing shows Korybant with twin cockpits.  As far as we know she was built with the long single cockpit she has today.

More Recent Racing

Before we bought Korybant an ex-Air Force owner had hoped to race her in the Fastnet Race (as Colonel Blondie Hasler had done in Tre Sang, a sistership of Korybant, immediately after the War), but the disastrous 1977 Fastnet caused the rules to be tightened so much that Korybant would not have been allowed to race.

We’ve done quite a lot of racing at classic boat events, but these days she’s mostly cruised.  In our thirty-three years of ownership we’ve raced at:

  • Round the Island Race (1984)
  • Burnham Week
  • Mersea Week
  • Shotley Regatta
  • The Dutch Classic Yacht Regatta
  • Shotley to Holland passage races
  • Sail Amsterdam (1990 and 1995)
  • Nypan Trophy (Sweden)
  • Viaporin Tuoppi (Helsinki)
  • Helsinki Classic Week 2012
